Our Thanksgiving Bread

Pops loved tradition. So in honor of my earthly father and in keeping with the tradition of my blog, here is a prayer-poem written by my dad. To my Heavenly Father be the glory!

Oh bread of heaven feed my hungry soul with.....

OUR THANKSGIVING BREAD

And now we break this bread together
Father be with us here today
Make our lives Your home forever
In dear Jesus name we pray

Thank You for all You've given us
And on this blest Thanksgiving day
Thank You for Your gift of Jesus
Given to guide our earthly way

Such a gift beyond all human knowing
We are humbled in His sight
To live our lives like cancles glowing
Our purpose to reflect His light

So now we start but without merit
Father please show us Your way
Grant us Your grace that we inherit
Christ our bread this Thanksgiving day

Amen.

Christmas Bread

In keeping with the tradition of inserting poems written by my dad during cetain times in the calendar year, here's one of his Christmas Eve Poems.

Christmas Bread

Now we break this bread together
Lord be with us here today
Make our lives your home forever
In Jesus name we pray.

Thank you for all you've given us
and on this special night
We share the gift of your son Jesus
Truly born in love's pure light.

Such a gift beyond all knowing
We are humbled in His sight
To live our lives like candles glowing
Our purpose to reflect His light.

So now we start but without merit
Lord please show us the way
Grant us your grace so we inherit
Christ, our bread, on Christmas day.
Amen.

My Daily Bread

In thanks for my earthly, now deceased, dad and in celebration of Thanksgiving, my blog will look a little different today. I want to share a table prayer my Dad wrote. He actually wrote it as a Christmas prayer but it seems appropriate for Thanksgiving too. I've left all his original punctuation. His pen name was Rockman and his given name Robert Appel. These words have blessed me and I hope they will bless you.
FOR BREAD NOW GIVEN
Now in this special moment--
And at this very place
We have felt your presence with us--
Lord Jesus face to face.

Thank you for this food--
Always so freely given
May it strengthen us today--
Lord Jesus bread of heaven.

Now nourished by this gift--
thus sustained for new endeavor
We will go forward in your name--
Lord Jesus, precious Savior.

Amen.
